What's new with Woodwork for Inventor

  • Autodesk Inventor 2027 had an issue related to DirectX 12 and custom applications. Previously, Woodwork for Inventor displayed a warning recommending DirectX 11. This issue has been resolved in Autodesk Inventor 2027 SP1, and the warning will no longer be shown when SP1 or later is installed.
  • Horizontal Corner Recess has been disabled to improve reliability and ensure more predictable operation.
  • A new API function, WriteMappedProperties, has been added. It allows mapped properties to be written to a document's custom iProperties and can be called from iLogic. See the API/SDK Help for details.
  • The Material Replacement API now allows you to retrieve all configuration names, obtain the active configuration, and set any configuration as active. See the API/SDK Help for details.
  • The BOM API now allows you to specify the name and location of the .wbom file. See the API/SDK Help for details.
  • The CAM Behavior mechanism has been reviewed and improved. AutoCNC now generates better machining strategies for more complex technologies.
  • Internal calculations have been improved, resulting in more accurate slanted machining operations.
  • In some situations, when holes were machined using milling operations, Woodwork for Inventor incorrectly reported that they had not been processed by drilling. This warning is no longer displayed.
  • Users can now lock individual CAM jobs in the browser. Locked jobs are no longer modified by AutoCNC, while remaining fully editable manually.
  • An issue that caused the AutoPlot progress window and Autodesk Inventor window to minimize during processing has been resolved.
  • Smart View has been improved to address several minor issues. Projections are now generated correctly, and duplicate dimensions are no longer created.
  • The Material Editor now allows additional Processing Piece types to be defined for Nesting processing settings. Users can choose whether Nesting processes the Part contour or the Workpiece contour. When the Workpiece contour is selected, only rectangular workpieces are processed, with the option to include or exclude the top and/or bottom covers.
  • Users can now process only the external nesting contour by enabling the Process only nesting contour option.

  • The Learning Path dialog did not work in Autodesk Inventor 2027. The mechanism has been updated, and videos now appear as expected.
  • The SDK help file for post processors could not be opened. This has been fixed.
  • The SDK installation did not include JavaScript post-processor samples. They are now included.
  • The Corner Recess command did not work correctly in the Skeleton Design environment. This has been fixed.
  • Build Structure did not work correctly in certain situations. These issues have been resolved.
  • The {Item.Drawing.SheetImage} keyword caused a crash during report generation. This has been fixed.
  • The iMatch command could crash Autodesk Inventor for certain hardware configurations. This issue has been resolved.
  • In text-based BOM reports, Parts Only quantities were interpreted incorrectly. Quantities are now calculated correctly.
  • When automatically collecting faces for painting, Woodwork for Inventor correctly ignored hole faces. However, this mechanism failed in the Assembly environment. This has been fixed.
  • The Clear operation of the Corner Recess command did not work correctly for assemblies and multi-body parts. It now removes features as intended.
  • JavaScript post processors could not correctly access RuntimeSettings. This has been fixed.
  • Opening the CAM Behavior dialog from the AutoCNC dialog could cause Autodesk Inventor to crash. This has been fixed.
  • If a Mill Sizing operation had no predefined tool, incorrect lead-in values were generated. This has been fixed.
  • Finishing contours for Rest Milling operations were generated incorrectly. This has been fixed.
  • CAM bodies were generated incorrectly for sink-type edge bands when Pre-mill Allowance was enabled. This issue has been resolved.
  • CAM Behavior settings did not correctly import router information. This has been fixed.
  • If models contained visible Skeleton bodies (additive or subtractive), AutoPlot could throw an exception in certain situations. It now ignores these bodies and proceeds normally.
  • When edge band replacement schemes were enabled, AutoPlot displayed the original edge band codes in view labels. It now displays the correct replacement codes.
  • Refreshing AutoPlot removed dimensions. Dimensions are now preserved.
  • .wbom specifications were interpreted incorrectly, resulting in incorrect nesting schemes. This has been fixed.
  • CountInDesktop returned incorrect values. It now returns the correct values.
  • .wnest files did not preserve operation order. This has been fixed.

  • Single installation file. Instead of three installation files, there is now one unified installer. It automatically detects installed and supported Autodesk Inventor versions. Users can choose which versions to install it for.  
  • Global installation. Woodwork for Inventor adapts to users on the computer and is installed for all users.

  • Corner recess. Ability to create inset corners/recesses for parts in the design environment.

  • Database backup is created before installation. A copy before database update is saved to the directory where the Woodwork.db file is located.
  • Standard component Library redesign using Model States.
  • Standard components are moved to an online server and automatically downloaded during installation and/or when launching Woodwork for Inventor.
  • Samples are moved to an online server with the option to download each one separately.
  • Woodwork for Inventor will automatically launch in the language selected during installation.
  • Reworked Woodwork for Inventor projects by simplifying them, removing the _LIBRARY directory, and moving the SMART COMPONENTS and iBOX LIBRARY directories into the PROJECTS space.
  • Improved update mechanism adapting to user permissions on the computer.
  • Updated SDK file location. After extracting SDK.exe all files are located in: C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Woodwork for Inventor\202X\v1Y\SDK
  • .adsklib library file was moved from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Woodwork for Inventor\202X to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Woodwork for Inventor\. This ensures the same library file is used across different Autodesk Inventor versions.
  • Replacement Data Samples were moved from Replacement Data Samples project space to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Woodwork for Inventor\Replacement Data Samples.
  • The Settings dialog can now be opened from Autodesk Inventor even when no document is open.
  • Data Collector allows selecting additional files and adding them to the data package being prepared.
  • Paint and Veneer cover types are ignored during automatic cover assignment when holes are detected according to Design Settings values.
  • Extended duplicate search mechanism with additional criteria.
  • Improved mass calculation mechanism - excludes masses of solid bodies not involved in geometry (subtracting bodies, adding bodies) from the general calculation. This significantly increases overall mass calculation accuracy.
  • Faster configuration access when clicking configuration selection in the Hardware Attachment command.
  • Multilayer Board grain direction logic redesigned. Multilayer Board grain direction is now automatically enabled or disabled depending on material composition. If at least one layer has grain direction, the Multilayer Material automatically enables grain direction.
  • In the Material and Palette editors, users are more clearly informed whether a specific Fill Material and/or Cover Material has grain direction or not, using indicators:
  • Improved Material Replacement mechanism. From now on, users working with grain or material records will be able to modify a material property – whether it has grain or not. Therefore, an additional property has been introduced that must be specified: “Has Grain”. Accordingly, the Replacement Data samples have been updated to include the additional property – Has Grain, alongside the existing Image, Code, and Name. It should be noted that changing this property will also affect the final Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Filtering capability has been added to the iMatch command. When working with large Assemblies, an option can be enabled that allows selecting Hardware components only at the same level as the template component (Select template iComponent):
  • RuntimeSettings description support. Runtime execution settings have been added to post-processors.
  • Users can define whether finish contouring is required in chipping operations and what Oversize should be used.
  • Users can define a threshold above which larger areas will be ignored in chipping operations.
  • Users can specify minimum hole depth values when the system performs an AutoCNC operation. Holes that are smaller than the specified depth will be ignored.
  • (Nesting) Improved side detection for materials that have different covers on the top and bottom.
  • (Nesting) Improved nesting placement mechanism. Complex geometry parts should be placed more accurately.
  • (Nesting) Improved visualization, allowing the user to choose whether to highlight contours of Processed and Unprocessed geometry Contours, or the entire displayed area.
